Schull, June bank holiday 2014

As you may already know, we are planning to head down to the lovely West Cork village of Schull for the June Bank Holiday weekend this year (30 May – 2 June) as is pretty much tradition at this stage. The boat diving down that direction is superb and if possible the shore diving as good if not better (at least on its day) and it has the craic to match. As is the usual case, this weekend is open to everyone from Trainee up.

If this sounds like a good way to spend yet another weekend away with the dive club, then get in touch with me to let me know you are interested (with all the usual info). However, because it is one of the busiest weekends of the year in the area , I’d like to get a €50 deposit from you to secure a spot. This is somewhat out of my hands as the people who own the house/s I’m looking at want money ASAP and €50 will get at least two nights paid and out of the way sooner rather than later.

Deposits should be paid directly to the PE Office in Ferry Lodge (pink marker on this map), where there’s a sign-up sheet.

Sound good?Any problems/questions or anything like that, drop me an email!

AGM, Friday 16 May

Early warning: we’re holding our AGM on Friday 16 May. Save the date! We’ll be electing a new committee, reviewing the year so far, and discussing our plans for the future.

Venue, time, and agenda are all to be decided; more details will follow as they’re decided.

Equipment Inventory (Your club needs you!)

Hi everyone!

Each year we do an inventory of all our club equipment so that we know what state everything is in and what we need to replace/repair.

This years inventory is on at the cages this Thursday April 10th at 6pm sharp. I need as many people as possible to come along to help out. That means you!

I will arrange some pizza and drinks vouchers for anyone who helps out. So we can have a bit of a social in the Fran Well when we’re done. If you don’t help out you don’t get pizza!

Please send me an email to confirm you are coming (j.treanor@umail.ucc.ie).

See you Thursday!
James

Easter Dive weekend in Valentia

Hi all,

We’re going to head to Valentia from the 18th to 21st of April for the Easter bank holiday weekend.

As usual this weekend is open to everyone, but places will be limited (the boat can only take so many and we can only do so many trips out per day) so I’ll sign people up on a first come first served basis.

If you’re planning to come down I need you to give me the following information:

-What night(s) you intend to stay (Fri/Sat/Sun).
-If you need a lift.
-If you are driving, how many passengers you can take.
-If you’re a trainee, how many dives you’ve done.

Costs should be pretty much the same as a normal dive weekend. I haven’t finalised these figures, so they are subject to change, but as a rough estimate:

-€25 pp/night for accommodation.
-€10 pp/day for food.
-€10 per dive for boat dives (depends on how much fuel we use).

Any questions, give me a shout at: kevin.quill@umail.ucc.ie

Night diving tomorrow

Apologies for the late notice. Ray is planning a night dive tomorrow (Tuesday 4 March) out of Oysterhaven. This is for experienced divers only: D** (or current D** exam candidates) or above. The plan is to meet at Oysterhaven at 19.45 tomorrow evening. Brian will be opening the cages at 21.00 tonight to get gear.

Not sure how many spaces there are; best bet is to contact Ray directly if you have his contact details; otherwise get in touch with me (sdób) through the usual channels and I’ll put you in touch with him.

Baltimore 21st – 23rd March 2014

Hi all,

We’re going to head to Baltimore for the weekend of the 21st to 23rd of March. This should be the first proper weekend away of the 2014 diving season.

As usual this weekend is open to everyone, but places will be limited (the boat can only take so many and we can only do so many trips out per day) so I’ll sign people up on a first come first served basis.

If you’re planning to come down I need you to give me the following information:

-What night(s) you intend to stay (Fri/Sat).
-If you need a lift.
-If you are driving, how many passengers you can take.
-If you’re a trainee, how many dives you’ve done.

Our plan will be to bring the boat and dive in the sea, but just in case the weather is against us, I’m going to ask everyone coming to fill out a permit application for Lough Hyne. The form is here. These need to be returned to me by the 1st of March. This is a restriction placed upon us by National Parks and Wildlife Service. If you don’t return the permit in time, and we end up having to dive Lough Hyne, you won’t be able to dive.

Any questions, give me a shout!

Tenerife 2014

Let’s go to Tenerife, shall we? You can fly there from Cork and get a Stella and a full English on the seafront in Los Cristianos. Oh, and the water is clear, the mean sea temperature is 23°C in August, and there’s a chance of seeing turtles, dolphins, and angel sharks, as well as the usual suspects. If you’re all “shut up and take my money”, feel free to skip to the last section to find out how to proceed; otherwise, read on! Continue reading
